the developed ...
the developed negative is to block out all light apart from IR. it isnt essential, but might make images clearer. my webcam (and most others) have a small piece of tinted glass inside the lens, and this MUST be removed, so i put a tiny square of film where this used to be the range of the LEDs i used was a few metres. you could place other sources anywhere not attached to the camera and it would work. the camera has no range limitation, the sun pumps out IR and it sees? that.
